Sjórinn er margbreytilegur og getur mörgum virst óútreiknanlegur en svo er þó ekki með öllu.
Flest fyrirbæri og sjónarspil sem hafið býður uppá eiga sínar skýringar og stærstu þættir í hegðun þess eru vindur, straumar og landslag.
Auðvelt er að lesa veður spá og landslag liggur nokkuð í augum uppi en hinsvegar eru straumar og hegðun þeirra ekki alveg ljós þeim sem ekki þekkir til.
á þessu námskeiði kennum við nemendum að finna út föll og straum út frá flóðatöflum ofl í fyrri hlutanum en í þeim seinni kennum við róður, bátsbeitingu og smá siglingafræði í straumum og léttum straumröstum.

The ocean has many faces and may look unpredictable and although a wild force of nature it is controlled by elements that we can predict and calculate up to a certain point.
The biggest factors to the ocean's behavior is wind, tide and landscape.
Most people can read a forecast and see the landscape but the tides may look a bit more complicated to the novice.
In this course we teach students to calculate tides and currents from a tidetable and landscape in the first part but in the second we teach paddling, boathandling and basic navigation in currents and friendly tidalraces.
